Canada's Petroamerica Oil Corp has hailed its latest discovery in Colombia as “the best well yet to be drilled” on a field in the Llanos basin.

The Toronto-listed player has struck around 100 feet of net oil pay at the Las Maracas-6 well on the Los Ocarros Block.

Colombia-focused Petroamerica tested the well with flow results of approximately 600 barrels per day from the Une formation. The well is now producing from the main middle Gacheta sand interval.

The company hit net pay of 25 feet in the Mirador formation, 53 feet in the Gacheta sand formation, 10.5 feet in the Lower Gacheta and 11.5 feet in Une.

“In terms of potential net pay thickness, this is the best well yet to be drilled on the Las Maracas field,” Petroamerica said in a Wednesday statement.

“The rig has now been skidded and is currently drilling the Las Maracas-7 well from the same surface location.

“Given the encouraging results coming from Las Maracas-6, Las Maracas-7 will continue to appraise the southern extension of the Las Maracas field and is expected to be followed immediately thereafter by a water disposal well.”
