Veteran mineral exploration analyst Eric Coffin has come out with his April commentary. Readers interested in that sector are encouraged to take a look.

The gist of the article is that investors and mining companies must think longer term:

"People who work their way to the top of large organizations tend to be empire builders. Its in their nature to want to maximize the size of the organization and the importance of their position.

We’ve seen this over and over again in other sectors. Every decade or so there is a rash of mergers. A lot of them end up being non-accretive at best or disastrous at worst. Shareholders and analysts decry them and CEOs promise to forget they ever heard the term “M&A”. A few years later they are back at it again. I see no reason to think the mining sector will be any different.

There's light at the end of the tunnel, but it's a long tunnel."
