It’s Friday, 5:45 pm. You're sitting in your ergonomic chair with your feet up. It’s been a big day in the financial markets, and a project you have been working on for months has come to profitable fruition, so you feel good, powerful, certain of your future financial success.

Until the phone rings. Imagine it’s your wife, who in a frantic voice tells you she is calling from the hospital where she has taken your four year old son who has suddenly lost consciousness. All the glory of the day instantly dissolves as you hang up and race for your car. In the minutes, hours, days that follow you are constantly running back and forth to the hospital, your family reeling from the chaos that having a very sick child involves. And you realize that nothing, not the money or the influence or the status you’ve been chasing all these years means anything in the face of the threat to your child’s health. In fact, you’d give it all up in a minute if it meant saving your child.

This is not a story anyone wants to be theirs, but the fact is that thousands of kids get sick, very sick, every year. So, how do we, as business people, help to ensure the best possible outcomes for children and their families in times of health crisis?

Enter Canaccord Genuity President & CEO Paul Reynolds: Paul is one of the most impressive Canadian business leaders ever. He’s also the father of four children, ages 4 to 27, which explains why he’s involved in both sponsoring and participating in The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk to raise money for SickKids Hospital this September 27th.

We went back and forth with Paul a few times on this subject, and while he’s done hundreds of deals in his career, some of them massive, Paul says being on the Board of Directors and helping raise money for SickKids Hospital is the deal he’s most passionate about. SickKids’ commitment to providing excellent care and support for patients and their families requires ongoing investment, and happy, healthy kids are the best return we could hope for.

The Challenge: Paul knows that our readers are intelligent, successful, and philanthropic. So he’s challenged us to sponsor him in The Canaccord Genuity Great Camp Adventure Walk, and he’ll match our donations dollar for dollar to a maximum $50,000. Of course, there will be a tax receipt for your gift.

Some info on Sick Kids Hospital: SickKids is at the forefront of healthcare, teaching and research dedicated exclusively to children in Canada and around the world. As the largest paediatric academic health sciences centre in Canada, SickKids is much more than a hospital. They are driven, every day, by a mission to improve the health of children by providing the best in family-centred care, creating groundbreaking scientific and clinical advancements and training the next generation of experts in child health. This work is having an impact in Canada, and globally as well.

What your money will do: All donations go directly to the Possibilities Fund, which supports the people, programs, equipment and infrastructure at SickKids Hospital, a leading and world-class provider of children’s healthcare. Every year they see more than 100,000 children, and every dollar matters. But funding goes much further than that: it means SickKids can continue to invest in research programs and training, maintaining their position as a leader in paediatric wellness. Through a commitment to providing more than just care, they actively seek new and innovative ways to improve children’s health, to enhance the patient experience and to ensure that their successes are shared globally. Every child benefits from their learning.

Please take a moment to make a donation to SickKids via Paul’s page. Be sure to note that you’re making the pledge because you read about it in CEO.CA and have a little fun with it. Let’s meet Paul’s challenge!!!

I'm in, I'll pledge a few bucks to SickKids if Paul will match.

Thanks for your support!
