Gold Standard Ventures (GSV.V) has been busy consolidating and exploring land positions in the Carlin Trend in Nevada since becoming public in July 2010. The Carlin Trend is one of the most prolific places in the world for gold production and home to the large mines of Newmont and Barrick. The team at Gold Standard has managed to acquire the largest land position of any junior in Nevada and believes what they have one day will be a "mining district".

This morning the company announced additional drill holes from the Pinion Deposit. All eight drill holes intersected gold mineralization above the .14 cut off grade of the 43-101 resource estimate released in September. Drill holes show the deposit is expanding and has a lot more upside.

The resource estimate from APEX in September shows an indicated mineral resource of 20.84 million tonnes grading 0.63 gram per tonne gold, totalling 423,000 ounces of gold and an inferred resource of 55.93 million tonnes grading 0.57 gram per tonne gold, totalling 1,022,000 ounces of gold, using a cut-off grade of 0.14 gram per tonne gold.

The 0.14 gram per tonne cut off surprised the market but that is also the grade of the nearby Newmont Emigrant mine. The Emigrant mine is one of Newmont's lowest cash cost mines and has many geological similarities to the Pinion Deposit.

Mac Jackson, Gold Standard's vice-president of exploration, stated: "We tested multiple targets with 44 holes during phase 2 drilling at Pinion, and with these intercepts in the anti-cline and east targets, results are off to a great start. Grade and thickness of the oxide gold zone continue to correlate well with the collapse breccia host horizon, which increases in thickness or strength of alteration within structural zones like the anti-cline or crossing faults. We look forward to a steady stream of assay results now that we have completed phase 2 at Pinion."

Gold Standard has potential to be a takeover candidate as they explore and consolidate on the Carlin Trend.

Mine depletion is currently around 5.6 million ounces annually in Nevada and it is not being replaced by discovery.  Any mining company looking to add a large land position in one of the best gold belts in a great jurisdiction would be interested in what Gold Standard has to offer.

Also note that Jonathan Awde – President & CEO, Director has picked up 67,000 shares in the open market since October 22nd.

A steady stream of  drill hole assays is expected in the next several weeks.
