Mr. Lowell sent my brother and I each a signed copy of his new book, Intrepid Explorer, a must-read for mining execs and investors.

Arizona prospector Dave Lowell was born to find hidden treasure.

The 87-year-old prospector is probably the world’s best mine finder, having discovered an amazing 17 ore bodies. And as it turns out, he’s a fine writer as well.

In his new autobiography, titled Intrepid Explorer, Mr. Lowell vividly recalls a lifetime spent in mining and exploration. The book captures his personality perfectly: polite but blunt, and often quite funny.

“When something of great value, from a standpoint of money or fame or status, shows up,” he writes, “People’s normal ethics disappear, and they scrap like dogs over a bone.”
