@JohnHunt@Newton. Thanks for the kind review for Speculator. Doug and I very much enjoy our heroes and the bad folk are bad. Perhaps our heroes will become the heroes of many others. Book 2 (Drug Lord) is in an advanced stage of writing, and we are working it--great fun!!
@NewtonI'm going to post some #interview content with co-author of the books @JohnHunt on this page starting here. Possible to turn it into an article at some point, but trying out a few-mini article ideas here first. Enjoy!
@NewtonWhat do you do for a living?
Although I am a pediatrician, I don’t practice in the US anymore because Obamacare is blatantly fascist and I am morally incapable of working in a fascist system. So to earn my keep, I run a few small companies, and, for my passions, I write, I try to help children in West Africa, and I am Chief Medical Officer of Liberty Healthshare, which is a healthsharing ministry that provides individuals a voluntary means of dealing with the hyperinflated prices of healthcare caused by health insurance and government. I love Liberty Healthshare and the people who are doing their best to provide a moral good. @JohnHunt
@NewtonWhat did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
I was going to be a pediatrician. And a physicist. And run a scientific community on an island in the South Pacific to help create new energy sources and build new types of space ships.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Same answer. @johnhunt#vision#career
@NewtonWhat lessons has your work life taught you?
That I cannot ever do things I think are immoral without getting sick and disgusted. Unfortunately, the government of the US has made immorality the law, so it is pretty tough these days to live a moral life without being declared a criminal. @johnHunt#principles#liberty#politics
@NewtonIf you could do anything now, what would you do? Why?
Go back in time and re-write the commerce clause of the Constitution, as well as clarify very specifically that “general welfare” is the opposite of special interest. The general welfare clause was clearly a limitation on the authority to tax, not a license for government to build a giant parasite. @johnHunt#politics#career#WhatIf
@Newton"Do you have any favorite stories from your work life?
Sure! Read Assume the Physician. It’s filled with true stories, told in the form of first person novel, though… Some of the best stories are the ones that still make even me laugh, at least in rertrospect." @johnhunt#highgroundnovels#advice
@NewtonWhy is there something rather than nothing?
If there wasn’t, there wouldn’t be a reason to question existence. That may be anthrocentric, or any intelligence-centric, but it also axiomatic. Consider a universe that existed for trillions of years in some form with no one like us to care. Then perturbations happen that create, in the end, intelligence. Over time, with evolution, that intelligence develops immortality and essential omniscience. Entropy wins until the omniscient species overcomes it and creates a new cycle. Bang. Big Bang. @johnhunt#philosophy#life
@NewtonDo we have free will?
We have at least a profoundly effective illusion of free will. We have a will that is not individually predictable by any laws of physics that we currently understand. Is the universe really just one quark going forward and backward through space-time on a set unchangeable path, creating all matter? Possibly. But we will not ever have the ability to predict that path, so for anything within our experience, we have free will. @johnHunt#philosophy
@NewtonDoes God exist?
Think how far humans have advanced in the brief span of our existence. How soon we will be immortal and tied in to enormous amounts of knowledge (approaching omniscience). Immortality for humans may be possible within this century. Certainly within 1000 years. Near omniscience will follow rapidly, perhaps within 10,000 years at the very most. That’s a flash in universal time. Let me ask you this: what is the chance that some intelligent species hasn’t already beaten us to this singular conversion of species to omniscient immortal being? Indeed, consider the possibility that a species that look like us has done this transition already, and with their god powers, spread life. It seems unlikely that we are the first. @johnhunt#god
@NewtonWhat is the best moral system?
If God does exist, then we humans will not be able to transition to immortality and omniscience, for we will be stopped by those who have preceded us as long as humans think the ends justify the means, and are willing to use force and fraud. No god wants a god attacking them. So, no species with socialist and fascist tendencies will become a god, or join in the god realm, or join with God, depending on your religious construct. To join the realm of godliness, force and fraud must be extinguished entirely. Bernie and Hillary and Trump take us toward force and fraud. Their philosophies of force are the sine quo non of war. We can’t transition that way. Libertarianism takes us towards peace. Libertarianism or its similar philosophies, is required for us to advance to the next stage of evolution.. If we value life above all, then libertarianism is the best moral system. @johnhunt#dougcasey#speculator#liberty
