The PDAC conference is one of the largest mining events in the world, and has been held annually in Toronto since its inception in 1932. Over the years, PDAC has evolved from being centred around prospecting and exploration to becoming the premier platform covering all aspects of the mining industry and has played an essential role in shaping its future trajectory.

The conference provides attendees with an opportunity to learn from industry experts by means of the technical sessions, panels, and keynote presentations. Furthermore, the exhibition floor at the conference enables attendees to catch a glimpse of the latest products and services in the mining industry. The conference long and rich history complemented by its deep connections to the mining industry provide everyone present with an opportunity to network, learn and collaborate.

Last year’s PDAC was a special one, not only because it was back in-person but also due its to its stellar attendance of 17,445 - from students to mining CEOs, and everyone in between. The underlying macroeconomic theme of interest at the time was the impact of inflation on commodity prices. In addition to that, many of the keynotes focused on new technologies advancements and its role in shaping the future of the industry as well as the balance between the needs of the industry and the needs of the globe. The latter idea reflected itself during the dialogues about green energy, net-zero carbons goal and the ESG regulations with Canadian Natural Resource minister Jonathan Wilkinson and Parliamentary Secretary Yvonne Jones highlighted Canada’s plans to support the industry while adhering to its climate goals and maintaining a good relationship with First Nations people. Lastly, there were positive regulatory and tax announcements for the mining industry which included extensions of tax refund benefits in Peru and Ecuadorian government of keeping its mines private.

With this year PDAC being just around the corner there are a lot of interesting events, opportunities, and themes to look out for. Attendees can look forward to learning about the commodities, mineral outlook, technology and future of exploration as well as new discoveries through the keynote speeches which feature industry professionals from Mckinsey & Company, Rio Tinto, Newmont Corporation and Chalice Mining. Exhibits such as the core shack and Investor’s exchange provide attendees an opportunity to get updated on the projects of a variety of mining companies. The conference also provides opportunities to all groups of attendees with events such as the Student Industry mixer, New Member networking reception and Life member luncheon where key themes in the mining sector such as China’s reopening, ESG’s impact and rising production costs can be discussed alongside networking.
