Paper trades are also known as BUY and SELL calls and will appear in your profile and in the #papertrades channel.

While the trade is open, whether long or short, your current profit or loss on the trade will show in your profile.  Once you close the trade it will remain as a historical record of your calls.

  • Paper trades can only be done in real time, previous trades cannot be back dated and entered.
  • US stocks will appear, but do not contain the price so are of limited value
  • If a stock changes tickers or splits (either forward or reverse) the values may not show correctly
  • Past trades cannot be edited or deleted so if you make a mistake and BUY or SELL the wrong ticker, just close the trade by entering the opposite call of the one you just made.

How Paper Trades Work as explained by @murat (site developer):

  • multiple BUY calls are used to calculate average cost (assume equal volume for each one)
  • multiple SELL calls are used to calculate average sale (assume equal volume for each one)
  • BUY calls followed by a SELL closes the trade & calculate gain/loss
  • SELL calls followed by a BUY covers the short & calculate gain/loss

How to enter a paper trade:

  1. Paper trades can be posted in any public channel.  Most commonly they are posted in your own channel or in the channel of the stock you are buying or selling.
  2. Type BUY:XXXX or SELL:XXXX anywhere in your message, where XXXX is the company symbol. no dollar sign, just the symbol letters.
  3. If your first entry for a ticker is SELL, that will open a short position.  Enter BUY:XXX to close the short.
  4. A message will pop up and ask you to confirm
  5. A bot will post the paper trade to #papertrades channel. It will not appear in the company channel unless that is where it is originally posted, or is tagged elsewhere in the message
