@Excelsior @wannabeinvestor - $IVN $IVPAF Ivanhoe Mines Concerning the economics at Platreef on their #Platinum mine in development in South #Africa: Here is some data from their 2015 PFS, and it is also found on page of 15 of their most recent Corporate Presentation: https://www.ivanhoemines.com/assets/docs/ppt/presentation-july2016-20160727141140.pdf Phase 1: 4 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) Platinum, Palladium,Rhodium & Gold (3PE+Au) Production - 433,000 oz/yr Total cash cost after credits $322/oz of 3 Platinum Elements + Gold Pre-production capex $1.2 billion After-tax NPV8% $972 million After-tax IRR 13% Looks solid to me. What was a concern for you @wannabeinvestor? Here are some photos (first 8 slides) of Platreef development. I don't think they'd be moving forward with the project if the economics were poor. https://www.ivanhoemines.com/assets/docs/ppt/ivanhoe-mines-progress-gallery-july-2016-1.pdf

@Excelsior @Wannabeinvestor - $IVN $IVPAF - Thanks for that info, I just went back and read the fine print :-) I see what you mean about the price assumptions being a bit high on each of the commodities, and you are correct that the IRR at 13% isn't stellar. This info is from Jan of 2015. In the July 14, 2016 press release it mentioned that they are currently working on an official Feasibility Study, so it should be more grounded in the commodity prices of today, and also include all the additional exploration work that can be incorporated into the resource in S. #Africa: "Ivanplats plans to develop the Platreef Mine in three phases: an initial annual rate of four million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to establish an operating platform to support future expansions; followed by a doubling of production to eight Mtpa; and then a third expansion phase to a steady-state 12 Mtpa. At a projected production rate of 12 Mtpa, Platreef would be among the largest platinum-group metals mines in the world." **"Good progress is being made in advancing the Feasibility Study for Platreef’s first-phase production scenario toward completion. The study, which began in August 2015, is being managed by principal consultant DRA Global, with specialized sub-consultants including Stantec Consulting, Murray & Roberts Cementation, SRK, Golder Associates and Digby Wells Environmental." "Ivanplats completed a pre-feasibility study (PFS) in January 2015 that covered the first phase of development that includes construction of a state-of-the-art underground mine, concentrator and other associated infrastructure to support initial concentrate production." https://www.ivanhoemines.com/news/news-releases/mine-building-enters-new-phase-with-start-of-permanent-sinking-work-on-first-shaft-at-ivanhoe-mines-platreef-platinum-group-metals-nickel-copper-and-gold-project-in-south-africa

@Excelsior @CriticalInvestor - I heard you the first time and addressed your jab already in my comments to 2 other posters. I posted the information from the July Ivanhoe Mines Corporate Presentation (I made a mistake and assumed this data would be a little more current than Jan 2015. You are correct that I should have looked at the applied metals prices these metrics were based on). Phase 1: 4 million tonnes per year (Mtpa) Platinum, Palladium,Rhodium & Gold (3PE+Au) Production - 433,000 oz/yr Total cash cost after credits $322/oz of 3 Platinum Elements + Gold Pre-production capex $1.2 billion After-tax NPV8% $972 million After-tax IRR 13% I had asked him: "Looks solid to me. What was a concern for you @wannabeinvestor?" When @Wannabeinvestor wrote back and politely pointed out their high assumed metals prices, then I went back and looked at the metal price assumptions from January of 2015 (1 1/2 years ago) and made this concession to him: "@Wannabeinvestor - Thanks for that info, I just went back and read the fine print :-) I see what you mean about the price assumptions being a bit high on each of the commodities, and you are correct that the IRR at 13% isn't stellar. This info is from Jan of 2015. I then wrote back to @90bigpicture: As for the economics, it is hard to evaluate Ivanhoe mines through a Pre-Feasibility Study that is over 1 1/2 years old. This is why the new Feasibility study in progress (mentioned above in their July 14, 2016 press release) will be very helpful to update everyone on where the economics really are on this project. I have a hard time believing they'd be moving forward so aggressively with development if the economics truly were a "disaster". https://www.ivanhoemines.com/assets/docs/ppt/ivanhoe-mines-progress-gallery-july-2016-1.pdf

@Excelsior Here is my watch-list of mining companies with a nice #ZINC component. I am sure there are some companies that I left off; so if you can think of more please post them below. (I purposely left off most of the Silver Producers/ Silver Development companies, because they are already on my Silver miners list). I also left off all the Prospect Generator Companies that have exposure to Zinc (except Avrupa) as they are already on that list. These are mostly #BaseMetals companies with exposure to #Zinc . @Excelsior @DanO - Regarding the article you posted about the future of Platinum mining in S. Africa: Mavis Ann ‘May’ Hermanus mentioned the importance transitioning over to mechanized mining methods. "In response to Mining Weekly Online’s questions regarding the mechanisation and automation of underground mines in South Africa to reduce injury and fatality numbers, Hermanus said she did not believe there was currently a business case for mechanizing narrow reef mines." This is the future and where the cheese is moving, but things will just migrate over to mines that are not so deep and dangerous, and will require less humans in the mine. Mechanized and robotic mining is exactly what Platinum Group Metals $PTM $PLG plans on doing at their The Waterberg Project. The #Platinum and #Palladium and #Rhodium resources in the Northern Limb are also shallow, so many mechanized open pits can be utilized versus the deep narrow vein approach in other limbs of the Bushveld district in South #Africa. $IVN $IVPAF Ivanhoe Mines Platreef Project and $AGPPF Anglo American's Mogalakwena Mine are also located in this emerging Northern Limb. The old model of deep and dangerous will simply be replaced by the new participants and utilize technical innovations. This mechanized method also reduces down the number of workers, and thus labor union BS that has been a crimp on the growth in S. Africa. These shallow mechanized pits will be more cost effective, and more consistent (and robots don't get tired, complain, hung over, or ask for a raise every 6 months). Here's a quote from the Platinum Group Metals discussing this very concept. "The size and scale of the Waterberg Project represents a significant alternative to narrow width, conventional, deep Meresnky and UG2 mining on the Western and Eastern Limbs of the Bushveld Complex. http://www.platinumgroupmetals.net/projects/waterberg/default.aspx "The Waterberg JV Project is a shallow deposit with good grade and has excellent thickness, which allows us to consider a mechanized mining method in the ongoing engineering and Preliminary Economic Assessment (“PEA”) on the Waterberg JV Project. Engineering firm WorleyParsons TWP has now completed initial designs for the Waterberg JV Project and is well into the cost estimation and engineering portions of the PEA at this time.   2,700jobs at the WBJV The differences between a mechanized operation at the Waterberg JV Project as compared to a mine operating with conventional mining methods (our own Project 1 mine is utilizing conventional mining methods) are significant. A mechanized mine has significant advantages in terms of efficiency and productivity, and a reduced waste profile, as compared to a conventional platinum mine. With mechanized equipment, fewer people can move more tonnes and larger stopes can be mined effectively. The improved working conditions in a highly mechanized mine also create an improvement in the most important of all operational issues - safety. By lowering the frequency and intimacy of the rock to human interface, safety increases dramatically. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1095052/000106299314000280/exhibit99-4.htm

@Excelsior @MiningBookGuy - Thanks for the $EDV $EDVMF Endeavour article from Northern Miner. I was pretty jazzed about their acquisition of True Gold mining, and that lit a fire under the #GOLD mining focus in #BurkinaFaso. @MiningBookGuy lastly, the amazing thing is that @jayfire actually had a post on this in the last 24 hours! http://fifighter.com/precious-metals/precious-metals-updates/2017/01/my-greatest-investment-ever-ivanhoe-mines-142758-64-realized-gains/ full disclosure: I have NOT talked to @Jayfire in like a month, and it's 100% a coincidence that he posted this within 24 hours of my 'random question'. but it's really a perfect window into how he thinks about these plays. again, i personally don't own any $IVN shares. but clearly @jayfire made out like a bandit! btw, i'm pretty sure @jayfire sold some shares even earlier...but when you make massive profits like this, it's pretty easy to forget leaving a few thousand on the table :P i think this post is just awesome, and i'm tagging to #newbies as a general example for ANY stock that's gone from the doldrums to spectacular gains within a year. there might be a ton more gains left...but you've got to figure out if your personality is more like @jayfire's (as mine is, but doesn't work for everyone), or if you've got the 'right stuff' to ride the highs (some people do...but this is not for everyone either) *final note - I sure wish I jumped on $IVN a year ago like @Jayfire, congrats! :) $IVPAF #FiFighter #mbgtrends
