@JamesKwantesNo visits to the nearby exploration properties @ekim. But south lobe they're mining now is by far the largest and richest kimberlite. Early days at Karowe, especially if they go underground which seems quite likely $LUC
@nobshereVANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 18, 2017) - Lucara Diamond Corp. ("Lucara" or the "Company") ( $LUC )(BOTSWANA:LUC)(NASDAQ OMX Stockholm:LUC) is pleased to announce that it will be publishing its 2017 First Quarter results on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, after the market close in North America.
@KingsixThe $LUC team is smart. Every time they need to announce something less than stellar they also announce something to keep people in and get people in until the good news can come.

@ekimOperating costs came in lower int the quarter and they didn't explain why. I believe they stockpiled a bunch of ore ahead of closing out the contract with the previous mine contractor and maybe had a bit more flexibility in not pushing ahead with planned waste stripping with the new contractor. Check that number out next quarter to maybe see if it normalizes.

@ekimI wonder if William Lamb $LUC left the board of directors on $NAR so that they could make room for a board representative for either Ross Beaty or Electum. I think that makes sense...but sometimes you have to put the pieces together after the fact. It seemed strange that Lamb would leave the board of directors at the time. #diamonds
@AllanBetter chance of $LUC taking over your Peregrine or Stornoway. But I don't see that happening either. They have money making machines with big margins in Botswana, no sense banging their head against the wall in Canada.
@JamesKwantesAttended the $LUC AGM with about 20 others earlier. Good presentation by CEO William Lamb. Meeting during market hours but he didn't tip his hat to Exceptional Stone Tender results, obv. - should land anytime. Seemed in good spirits. A partnership of some kind seems likely for the Lesedi La Rona. Would be surprised if the 1,109-carat stone doesn't sell this year. I'm long $LUC for capital gains + dividends (3% plus yield here)
@ekim@MiningBookGuy#Sierraleone diamond will be kept intact as a rough diamond specimen to show the world. The $LUC one is going to be sliced and diced into some very fine and large #diamonds. The path of these two diamonds will be quite different.
@MiningBookGuy@JamesKwantes - thanks. i'll copy @Ekim post here, provided additional insight:

@JamesKwantesCheers @MiningBookGuy. Acc to $LUC CEO William Lamb at AGM yesterday (in answer to a query from jr diamond guy Paul Brockington), govt of Botswana was interested in retaining the Lesedi La Rona. But spending that kind of cash on a diamond a tough sell compared to what could be provided citizens with $$ (LUC paid US$100M plus in taxes to #Botswana last year) #diamonds
@ekimI'm confused @jameskwantes The recent $LUC auction's best diamond was originally part of the very, very big stone. http://www.mining.com/lucara-gets-almost-18m-fragment-massive-ledesi-la-roma-diamond/
So, you have a 1109 carat stone still in the treasury, an 813 carat stone mid last year and now a 373.7 carat stone that sold for $15 million. My confusion is to when this 373.7 carat stone was actually recovered. Was it recovered when the other two big chunks were done...or was it milled and recovered over the last 3 to 4 months. I usually assume the special stone sale is from stones produced over the last 2 to 4 months.
@JamesKwantesThe 374-carat was recovered at about the same time as the 813- and 1,109-carat stones @ekim. Sold for US$17.54 million. Wonder what the odds are that the eventual Lesedi buyer visited Gaborone during the exceptional stone tender? $LUC yields 3.3% at these levels, pretty juicy for a miner esp. if you think the stock has upside
@JamesKwantesAs I was being searched @MiningBookGuy it did make me wonder about the high rollers who come through for the Exceptional Stone Tenders -- royal families etc -- and the level of searching they are subjected to. Bit of a fine line to walk there for $LUC#nobodycavitysearches
@JamesKwantesWhile Eira isn't running anything at the moment @nobshere, she's very much in the mix at the two remaining diamond plays, $LUC as a director and $NAR as an "advisor." She's a powerful ally to have even if she's not fronting the operation, North Arrow's recent financing with Beaty/Electrum is probably an eg. Believe she's visiting South Crofty with her dad so could be a plus for $SBW there. Can't really speak to her other board involvements
