@Vaughan Maybe I'm missing something on $AZ. They have the previously noted manganese issues, which they tried to downplay instead of taking it head on. They will also miss this #zinc bull market in terms of project development. Why would an investor pick $AZ over some of the other #zinc companies that will (hopefully) have their property ready to take advantage of the current market sentiment for zinc?

@Excelsior @fb - In addition to $RVR.AX planning to go into production in the next 6 months, there are a few other Australian Zinc miners to keep tabs on.... 1) $CZL.AX Consolidated Zinc - an Aussie #Zinc company planning on going into #production by Q4 2017 http://www.consolidatedzinc.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Investor-Update-March-2017_FINAL_V2.pdf 2) $TZN.AX Terramin Australia that has the Angas Zinc Mine on care and maintenance that they are considering putting back into production. http://www.terramin.com.au/project/angas-zinc-mine/ 3) Then of course there is $HRR.AX $HER with their advanced Woodlawn project that they are getting ready to fast track into production once they get their financing completed. http://www.heronresources.com.au/downloads/presentations/hrr_p20170307.pdf 4) $EMX.AX Energia Minerals is developing their Gorno Zinc Project in Italy and they'll have their DFS out very soon to fast track that project back into production. http://clients3.weblink.com.au/pdf/EMX/01839088.pdf * Then there are a number of other #Australia listed #Zinc explorers but they are at much earlier stage exploration projects like $AUQ.AX $GMR.AX $IBG.AX $MRP.AX $MCT.AX $MXN.AX $PNX.AX $VAR.AX and $VXR.AX but could always become takeover targets.... @ocotilloredux For the record, Trevali mined 716,893 t grading 4.41% Zn, 1.28% Pb and 1.42 oz/t Ag in 2016. The mine was developed with minimal reuseable infrastructure from the old St. Joe days since mining is from new zones and a second hand mill was brought in by Glencore. Of the 26 zinc mines of significance in Peru, only one has a head grade anywhere near 10% Zn- Catalina Huanca. Most are ~5% Pb+Zn but with a better silver kicker than Tinka. It is the low operating costs that differentiate Peru from most other nations. The shallow nature here with bulk underground mining potential is the key. #zinc

@ocotilloredux Thanks for the link @kipkeen. The aggressive tonnage rate has to be hoisted as the COO rightly states but I was a little confused with the hoisting strategy. ie. sink the shaft to total depth and then install two loading pockets or cut the shaft off half way and only install the upper pocket initially. The schedule is too aggressive for the first option in my opinion and even the second is a major stretch since it implies the ore passes, vent raises etc are in place down to the upper haulage level. Also, I have seen no discussion on rock temperature/geothermal gradient. Just north of there at Superior, Resolution Copper is dealing with rock temperatures of 175F at 2000 m depth so what is the rock temperature in the Deeps Zone below say 1000m? If the gradient is say, 1F per 20 m for instance, this would mean rock temperatures of ~125F at 1000m. I have no clue what the right answer is here but it is something that requires attention in the feasibility study in case it triggers the need for large surface refrigeration plant(s) a few years into the mine life. #nitpicking #zinc ~zinc

@ocotilloredux Two weeks after I quit as the Mining Manager at Cameco's Eagle Point, after not getting the necessary funds approved to clean up plenty of radiation/safety issues, I found myself as Chief Mine Engineer and Expansion Project Manager at the Allan Mine just 50 km outside of the city here. Stantec back then was McIntosh Engineering out of North Bay, Ontario who were the authors of the link above. As the EPCM, they made me look good. On time, on budget. @Excelsior @MiningBookGuy - glad to share ideas, and there are still more #Silver miners to follow but those are a few of the Jrs that have piqued my interest. The Silver miners are going to be a very lively sector the next few years, because in addition to rising Silver prices and out-performance to Gold and Gold miners, they have the added kicker of rising #Zinc & #Lead prices as credits that bring down their costs, improve margins, and will ultimately help with free cash flows. #mbgtrends

@Excelsior @HHorseman - Yes, I agree that with certain companies like $USA $USAS or $EXN $EXLLF or $AXU $AXR that they've done a great deal to turn their operations around in a more vocal way, and they are starting to see the first green shoots over the last year where the marketplace is waking up to some of these more high-throttled $Silver companies. $IPT $ISVLF has some very high grade, and is also the most "Pure" Silver Producer (way beyond $AG First Majestic's claims) https://image.slidesharecdn.com/20161122iptpptgg1forwebsiteandtour-161214203722/95/corporate-presentation-23-1024.jpg?cb=1481747968 $IPT revenues come from 89% #Silver, 3% #Gold, 5% #Lead, 3% #Zinc $AG $FR First Majestic is a little over 70% in #Silver. 18% #Gold, 10% #Lead, 2% #Zinc Few, however, are aware of the huge #Exploration upside that they have. I posted those pages from their Corporate Presentation yesterday, but again, there were over 4,000 old artisinal mines and 75 prior processing plants on their land package, and they haven't even explored 5% of them yet. They have some room to grow, but my only concern is that they aren't a mega-corp with the resources to unleash the drill rigs. I'd love to see 10 to 15 drill rigs sweep that land and clean up shop, but they are more slow and steady wins the race. :-) @HHorseman - great point about this being the "calm before the storm" and that when the PM bull market gets going in earnest that money will spill into all these Jr companies. The recent issues with $GDXJ just highlights that the Jr ETFs aren't very exposed to the high-torque Juniors. The reality is that investors who want exposure to these companies are better off building their own JR ETFs inside their portfolios (If they are willing to keep a vigilant eye and do the homework).

@Excelsior I like Constantine's assets and team, but worry this could turn into another Sabina in regards to permitting. Thoughts? $CEM $CNSNF Constantine Metals A Canadian mine threatens the 'heart and soul' of an #Alaskan community By Charles Mandel | March 30th 2016 #Permitting "...Ordonez is fighting to preserve that same natural grandeur - which includes a world-renowned bald eagle preserve - from a proposed copper, zinc, silver and gold mine upstream. “It’s a terrible location for a mine,” says Ordonez, who previously worked as a naturalist on cruise ships, work which took him from the Amazon to Antarctica, and who today operates a tour guide company in the region. “I’ve worked in all seven continents. I’ve seen the most amazing places in the world and here’s one of them right where I live in Haines, Alaska. It’s just not worth the risk. “ "Constantine Metal Resources, a mineral exploration company based in Vancouver, British Columbia, believes the proposed mine location - known as the Palmer Project - is rich in #copper and #zinc as well as #gold and #silver." "If developed, the mine would sit approximately 60 kilometres upstream from Haines, adjacent to the Klehini River. The Klenhini is a major tributary of the Chilkat." "Not far from the Palmer Project the two rivers merge and at the confluence sits the ancient Tlingit community of Klukwan, whose name translates to mean eternal village." Ordonez describes the village as one of the longest continually inhabited places in the Americas. “The people there today still catch fish right off their back door and live on it.” “The place is alive with salmon, eagles, bears and moose,” Cohen says. “The Chilkat River is the heart and soul of this community.” "But Cohen views the mine as a threat to this unspoiled region. “Once they build the #tailings pond and they’ve got millions of gallons of waste water held behind an earthen dam, there’s basically a sword hanging over the heads of the community forever, because that #tailings pond will have to be maintained in perpetuity.” http://www.nationalobserver.com/2016/03/30/news/canadian-mine-threatens-heart-and-soul-alaskan-community Stephen Hume: Alaskans gear up to fight B.C. company's mine plansSTEPHEN HUMEMore from Stephen HumePublished on: January 18, 2017 http://vancouversun.com/opinion/columnists/stephen-hume-alaskans-gear-up-to-fight-b-c-companys-mine-plans

@Excelsior @CriticalInvestor - That may indeed be the case, but I just wondered how much push-back to expect from the community on permitting? I don't feel like getting snared up in another permit debacle over the salmon & eagles. Pebble's environmental issues (for years) have dealt to a degree with Salmon fishing, and more recently with Sabina it was Caribou. ** It may be a non-issue, that's why I was asking for people's thoughts on it. _______________________________________ This passage stood out in that second article as it seems the community is divided on the issue (but in fairness, when aren't communities divided on mining projects): “Now we have a Vancouver-based exploration firm $CEM proposing a #copper - #gold - #zinc mine which threatens acid mine drainage a few miles upstream from the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve and immediately upstream from the Klehini River’s confluence with the Chilkat,” Cohen said. “You probably couldn’t find a worse place to put a mine — ever.” The abundance of fish and game that draws the bald eagles attracted humans, too — Chilkat is a Tlingit word that means “basket of fish” — and just upstream from the sanctuary and downstream from the confluence of the two rivers is old Klukwan, among the longest inhabited and most culturally important First Nations settlements on the Northwest Coast. In fact, the name Klukwan is derived from a Tlingit phrase that means “the village that has always been.” So, the village, which is 88 per cent Tlingit, is applying to the state for a special designation for the rivers that would give top protected status. The issue is dividing communities. Surveys show about half the population of Haines, a predominantly white community where Constantine spends heavily on contractors and suppliers, is opposed to any special protection for the river. I wouldn't think they would sell down their $VTT investment so maybe they are close to a deal with Milpo re Bongara - perhaps some cash and converting their interest into a royalty.

@Excelsior $EXN $EXLLF Excellon Resources Provides Update On Optimization Program And Q1 2017 Production Results April 27, 2017 – #Silver #Lead #Zinc #Producer #Mexico “The Platosa optimization program is nearing completion,” stated Brendan Cahill, President and Chief Executive Officer. “With each additional submersible pump we are increasing the local rate of drawdown at Platosa resulting in drier mining conditions day-by-day and the results continue to confirm or exceed our projections. Essential well cleaning was largely completed during Q1 and we are now in position to install submersibles more rapidly. We remain on track for a dry mine by the end of Q2.” Mr. Cahill continued, “Almost the entirety of #production during Q1 came from outside of the Rodilla manto resource area, which resulted in relatively higher dilution and lower grades, as #development focused on accessing the next level of Rodilla. Production has improved during April, with higher grades now being mined on multiple ore faces. With the increased rate of drawdown realized from the optimization program, we expect significantly improved #production from Rodilla in Q2 and also expect to bring the high-grade Guadalupe South manto back on line during the quarter, with development reaching the 623 manto by the end of Q2. Despite lower than expected production in Q1, the project is headed in the right direction.” http://www.excellonresources.com/news/details/index.php?content_id=164
